We are all facing serious challenges as a result of the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We also know that a respiratory illness can be especially difficult for people living with cystic fibrosis (CF), because their lung function is often already compromised. At Vertex, the health and safety of the patients we serve, our employees and the communities in which we live and work are at the center of everything we do. This is true every day, not just in times of uncertainty.
As a company, we plan for the unexpected because we know that you’re counting on us. And we have taken steps to ensure a continuous supply of our medicines. This means that we are highly confident in our continued ability to supply our medicines to patients who rely on them every day.
For the patients with CF, their caregivers and families, staying healthy is the number one priority. Working to stay healthy while a situation like this is evolving is not easy and we encourage you to follow the advice of your health care provider as well as public health guidance, such as that from the World Health Organization (WHO) or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC has also issued guidelines specifically for people who are at higher risk, and they recommend getting ready now in case there is an outbreak of COVID-19 in your community. In addition, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has published FAQs that are intended to address key concerns they have heard from the CF community about COVID-19.
We are monitoring the situation very closely — by the day, hour and minute. As things evolve and change, we’re here to answer any questions you may have.
